A new version of the Next-Gen Infrastructure for Heretto CCMS is now available.

Heretto CCMS 2026.09.25 (Next-Gen Infrastructure)

Note:

The Next-Gen Infrastructure for Heretto CCMS was introduced in CCMS version 2026.09.11. All Next-Gen Infrastructure CCMS versions use a new versioning format: yyyy.mm.dd. The Next-Gen Infrastructure for Heretto CCMS is being rolled out to customers. We'll share more details with each customer as their migration approaches.

  • Enhanced. We improved search reliability, including more accurate search results and fixes to search within Content Report and Localization Report.
  • Enhanced. We made several reliability improvements to branching and merge operations, including more accurate progress feedback, faster file additions to a branch, more reliable release-to-branch merge scoping, and more reliable repository invitations.
  • Enhanced. We made backend improvements to Content Library, including activity history, broken link indicators, file upload display, and folder navigation permissions.
  • Enhanced. We made platform and administrative improvements, including additional maintenance notification message options and internal monitoring and configuration updates.
  • Fixed. We fixed an issue where some users saw insufficient-permissions errors, or an incorrect Invalid content type indicator, when opening certain content. Access to affected content now resolves correctly.
  • Fixed. We fixed an issue where saving a very large commit could time out before finishing and cause the merge editor to fail to load. Large commits now save reliably.
  • Fixed. We fixed an issue in DITA Open Toolkit (DITA-OT) publishing where annotated image references in DITA transtype and PDF Generator output were not prefixed with the correct locale code, which could cause publishing failures for localized content. Locale-specific annotated image references now publish correctly for these output types.
  • Fixed. We fixed an issue where DITA Open Toolkit (DITA-OT) locale publishing could fail to find translated files after the source file had been moved to a new folder, even though the content of the source file was unchanged. Locale publishing now resolves moved files correctly.
  • Fixed. We fixed an issue where a bulk metadata update could be overwritten by a stale save from an open Resource Drawer, so the update did not apply correctly to that file. Bulk metadata changes now apply correctly even when the Resource Drawer is open for the file.
  • Fixed. We fixed an issue that could cause a merging operation to fail while retrieving the list of files to merge. Merges now complete without this error.

  • Enhanced. We improved search behavior involving combined topic/map id and body-content queries.
  • Enhanced. We made several reliability improvements to branching operations, including more consistent behavior when comparing, replacing, and merging branches.
  • Enhanced. We made backend improvements to Content Library, including branch-replace handling for large maps and how broken and unresolved links are surfaced in the Content Library.
  • Enhanced. We improved the performance of activity reindexing on legacy content.
  • Fixed. We fixed an issue in Content Library thumbnail view where thumbnails didn't load for folders containing media files. Thumbnails now render correctly when thumbnail view is selected.
    Figure 1. You can change the Content Library view to thumbnail in the top-right corner
    Layer 1
  • Fixed. We fixed an issue where generating a localization package for a topic with annotated images stripped the required SVG element tags, producing invalid XML. This could break the resulting locale on upload, with no workaround, for any customer using annotated images in localized content. Localization packages now preserve annotated image markup correctly, and affected locales upload without error.

Heretto Portal v6 26.09.21

  • In version 26.09.21, there are no end-user updates to report. Our focus was on creating new features and improving the performance of the system. While these enhancements may not be immediately noticeable, they contribute to an improved user experience.

The Next-Generation Infrastructure for Heretto CCMS is here! 🙌 It's a unified backend architecture that replaces 8+ separate legacy components with one modern platform, built from the ground up for reliability, scalability, and extensibility. It's the foundation that takes agentic content operations much further than what's been possible till today. 🚀

Note:

Note:

Some features in this release, like Find & Replace, Insights, and Extracted Metadata, were released earlier as Beta features and may already be familiar. They remain in Beta. Once your CCMS environment is migrated to the Next-Gen Infrastructure, all new features and enhancements become available to you automatically.

Heretto CCMS 2026.09.11: Next-Gen Infrastructure

  • Unified backend architecture. One modern backend now powers the entire platform, unlocking a new level of speed and flexibility for everything built on top of it. Our legacy infrastructure for Heretto CCMS relied on 8+ separate backend components, each with its own limitations and maintenance needs. Next-gen infrastructure consolidates all of it into a single, modern architecture, removing a major source of complexity and lifting the technical ceiling that previously blocked capabilities like Insights and Find & Replace.

  • Added: Find & Replace. Search a branch, folder, or map across all your XML files at once, then refine with options like case, whole words, or a specific element or attribute, up to regex and XPath. Find is available in Beta now, and Replace follows in a later phase. See Find & Replace (Beta).

  • Added: Insights (Beta). Analyze your content at scale across a branch, folder, or map with three new reports: Content for what's in your content set, Localization for translation progress, and Reuse for how much content is shared. See Reports (Beta).

  • Added: Quality Report (Beta). Scan a map or folder on demand to find broken links, invalid structures, and metadata errors, ranked by severity and tracked over time. See Quality Report.

  • Added: Extracted Metadata (Beta). Pull values that already exist in your DITA files into reports for filtering, without adding anything to the files themselves. See Metadata Governance in Heretto CCMS and Extracted Metadata Configurations.

  • Added: Delivery Maps. Mark the maps that represent complete deliverables, such as a user guide or help center, so reports measure those instead of every map in your content set. See Delivery Maps.

  • Added: Localization API. A new set of endpoints for managing localization work programmatically. Documentation is coming soon.

  • Added: Commit-Scoped File Changes. The REST API can now group related file changes into one commit, so they appear together in the activity feed and resource history with a single message. Documentation is coming soon.

  • Enhanced: Search. Search inside the file, not just its title and file name, by selecting full-text in the search bar drop-down, and find a topic or map by its DITA id attribute value. Saved searches and sorting in the search bar drop-down are also now available. Updated docs are coming soon. For current docs, see Search.

  • Enhanced: Scalability. The platform is ready to grow as big and as fast as your content strategy demands. Next-gen infrastructure supports a 100x increase in scalability, so teams can grow content volume and manage multi-brand rollouts without hitting platform limits, now or as they scale further in the future.

  • Enhanced: Delivery speed. Customers get fixes and enhancements faster than ever. A simpler, modern backend shortens the path from backlog to production, so engineering moves bugs through the pipeline faster and support resolves issues more quickly.

  • Enhanced: Stability. The platform runs with a new level of predictability and confidence. With the next-gen infrastructure, whole classes of bugs and edge case failures are designed out at the source, meaning fewer disruptions for every team relying on the CCMS.

  • Enhanced: Recovery time. When the unexpected happens, the platform bounces back faster than ever. It's built for high availability, so it keeps running even if individual components fail. Disaster recovery is also faster and more reliable. Together, these improvements cut emergency maintenance time by 96%.

  • Enhanced: Branching performance. Branching now happens at a speed that changes how teams can work. For example, large operations that used to take around 13 hours now complete in around 15 minutes, a 50x improvement, making it practical to branch large content sets without disrupting a team's workflow.

  • Enhanced: Localization processing. Localization now moves at a pace that keeps up with even the most demanding release schedules. Processing speed has improved 100x, shortening the path from source update to localized, publish-ready content.

Heretto Deploy API 26.09.11

  • Fixed. We fixed a short-lived issue where content requests made with JSON Web Tokens (JWTs) that had no audiences claim, or that had the claim set to null, incorrectly returned __default audience content even when a different audience was requested. This affected both manual and active sync deployments. Tokens with no audiences claim or a null claim now correctly return the content of the requested audience, since a missing or null claim places no restriction on which audience can be accessed. Tokens with an explicitly empty audiences claim continue to return __default audience content regardless of which audience is requested, since an empty claim restricts access to __default. For details on Deploy API authentication, see Deploy API Authentication.

A new CCMS version with a number of important fixes is now ready!

Heretto CCMS 26.09.04

  • Fixed. We fixed an issue where opening a sitemap in the Content Editor could take significantly longer than expected. Sitemaps now open without the added delay.

  • Fixed. We fixed an issue where a user could open and modify a DITAVAL file in the Content Editor even when their group was denied write access to that file. Write permissions are now enforced for DITAVAL files.

  • Fixed. We fixed an issue where generating a PDF preview with PDF Generator could fail for some maps, even when publishing the same map succeeded. PDF previews now generate as expected.

  • Fixed. We fixed an issue where bundling large maps for publishing to a third-party platform with DITA Open Toolkit (DITA-OT) could produce an incomplete bundle. This occurred when a topic contained a tracked change recording the removal of an attribute from an xref element. Bundles now include all expected files and publishing completes as expected.

  • Fixed. We fixed an issue where publishing a localized map with DITA Open Toolkit (DITA-OT) failed when a topic in that map used a content-reference (conref). The conref target was not resolved to the localized copy of the file, so the publish ended in an error. This affected all localization types, and publishing the same map with PDF Generator succeeded. Localized maps containing conrefs now publish with DITA-OT as expected.

  • Fixed. We fixed an issue where the trans-unit elements in XLIFF files generated by a localization job were listed in a random order rather than following the content order of the original topic. Now, XLIFF files preserve that order.

New Deploy API and portal versions are now available with new features and important fixes.

Heretto Deploy API 26.09.03

  • Added. Map-level custom metadata now cascades to sitesection and topichead elements, which previously showed no metadata of their own even when a parent map had metadata applied. These elements also adopt metadata from the maps and topics they reference directly, but not from anything deeper. Cascading passes metadata down to sitesection and topichead elements from ancestor maps, while adoption pulls it up to them from their immediate children. Specific rules govern both behaviors, including how multi-valued and single-valued fields resolve. This applies to both manual and active sync deployments. For details, see the Custom metadata in maps section in Metadata Governance in Heretto CCMS.

Heretto Portal v6 26.09.03

  • Added. Images in Heretto Portal v6 can now be automatically adapted for dark mode. When you set the outputclass attribute to invert-in-dark on an image or fig element, the portal inverts the image colors whenever a reader views the page in dark mode, so no separate dark version of the file is needed. This works with both raster image files and SVGs and applies wherever the attribute is set, including the zoomed view of a zoomable image. It is best suited to monochrome line diagrams such as flowcharts and sequence diagrams with dark lines on a white or transparent background. For images that cannot carry an outputclass attribute directly, such as annotated images, set it on a parent element instead, for example a fig, div, or ph element wrapping the image. This structure is now supported:

    CODE
    <fig outputclass="invert-in-dark">
      <title>Process flow</title>
      <image href="images/flow-diagram.svg">
        <alt>Process flow</alt>
      </image>
    </fig>
  • Added. In Heretto Portal v6, the sitesection thumbnail can now be shown next to the sitesection title in two places: in the hero section at the top of the page and in the main navigation menu, where the sitesection title is rendered. Both are hidden by default and can be enabled on request for either location or both. Contact Heretto to turn them on for your portal.

    Figure 2. Sitesection thumbnails added to the hero section and in the main navigation menu
    Layer 1
  • Added. Heretto Portal v6 now renders topicref elements with the scope="external" attribute, which link to external websites or binary files, as tiles, as links within tiles, and as entries in the main navigation menu (on the left side). If an external link has no navtitle, its URL is shown as the title. In the navigation menu, external links show the external link icon that was previously shown only for links to binary files.

  • Enhanced. External links in Heretto Portal v6 now open in a new browser tab consistently wherever they appear. The external link icon is also shown on tiles and on links within tiles, and the same icon is used in every place the portal renders an external link.

  • Fixed. We fixed an issue in Heretto Portal v6 where the on-page navigation panel (on the right) could render wider than intended when a page contained unusually long topic titles. Long titles now wrap within the panel, and the panel no longer exceeds its intended width regardless of title length.

  • Fixed. We fixed an issue where custom hero section title and subtitle text configured for Heretto Portal v5 was not applied after upgrading to Heretto Portal v6, because v6 read these settings under different names. Affected portals showed the default hero section text instead of the configured text. Heretto Portal v6 now recognizes the same hero section title and subtitle settings as v5, so existing configurations carry over without changes. Hero section text can also be set per page type for the home page, sitesection pages, content pages, search results, and error pages. When no page-specific text is set, the general title applies across all pages, and when no custom text is defined at all, the default text is used.
